Dc Wind Generator Motors
Can you help me in my Wind Turbine project?
I chose to make a wind turibne for our investigatory project. I am planning to follow the structure of the brushed DC motor for the generator part. In making the armature for the rotor part, should the armature touch the magnets and should it be connected to the part of the rotor that touches the brushes? Answering this question would be a really big help. Thanks.
The armature of the gen/set should NOT touch the magnets if it does you have a real problem..First with the friction and the mechanical crunch and then second with grounding or shorting after it messes up your wire wraps...The brushes for lack of a better name are the collection points for the system and should be electrically isolated (insulated from other parts) . If not grounding will occur and your generator will not work...My best advise to you on this sort of a project is to glean from the designs of others ..Go to the web and look up the way an old automotive generator was made. They have all the same basic parts and many of the problems were solved by the old guys back then. Taking that idea one step farther look at using an alternator from an auto . GM makes a world of one wire hookup and by varying the belt pulley size you can get a sizable 12 output at a nominal rpm. the hard part is wind capture which is a function of sail efficiency and surface and sometimes the support mechanisms for the transfer from gen to ground through a collector ring can be a hassle but collector ring issues have been around for 100 years so look to the net for those answers too...Good luck with this from the E...
