The price of electricity is going up. It is a fact that our society today is faced with the reality that the cost of living will increase as we develop and grow. Economic growth and inflation are all part and parcel of a growing economy. These unavoidable truths force us to consider alternative energy sources like solar panel technology and windmill generators as a way to both save money and be kind to the environment.

The world that we live in today is fast becoming educated about the need to preserve and improve our environment and because of this awareness many of the old technologies are being replaced with new systems that are going to save our environment. Everyone knows that the environmental crisis is one of our making. The only way out of this situation, is for us, as individuals and as a nation, to spearhead the two pronged movement to reduce our energy consumption and develop alternative energy sources that are not damaging to our world.

National leaders are investing considerable funds into renewable sources of energy such as solar panel technology, wind power, and nuclear energy. Wind and solar generators have the ability to provide electricity with virtually no cost to the environment.

The government investment has paid an unforeseen dividend, however, because the research and development required for the government contracts, has caused the technology to come down in price, so much that people have recognized that the same principles on a smaller scale are also financially viable.

The concept of a small wind turbine and/or a solar array has come full circle, to be seen as a reasonable and rational concept for main stream society.

The science that has allowed us to take thin sheets of electrically different elements and expose those to solar photons, thereby producing a miniscule electrical current, has become comprehensible to anyone with high school physics. With a sufficient number of these panels, it is possible to power your home. The appliances designed even a few years ago to run on a limitless supply of electricity are not the appliances we now need.

It is vital to streamline appliances in order to maximize their efficiency. It is an achievable goal to expect self suffiency in the future if we keep our efforts to spread the awareness at all levels of society.

The addition of a small wind turbine would allow a little ‘breathing room’ for overcast days or in latitudes when the home solar panels don’t contain sufficient energy to make them efficient on these kinds of days.

A good option to help in climates where solar energy is restricted due to climate limitations, is the geothermal or aqua thermal heat pump. Already becoming extremely popular in the cooler climates, the ‘heat pump’ transfers the inherent heat of the Earths average 65 degree constant temperature, into a system of liquid filled pipes, and, with the use of a refrigerator-like compressor, send it into your home. The ability to switch from a warm temperature to a cooler setting is provided.

If this heat pump is powered by your home solar panels, you have succeeded in making your solar panel installation part of the solution to our environmental problem.

oh how i wish that we are all using Alternative sources of energy instead of oil `
