Disadvantages of Solar Energy
It's been years now since solar energy were used as alternative method for electricity. Little did we know that all those years, solar energy has gone a little bit further with our lives. This technology does not only power up our solar lamps but there are several applications solar energy is applied to. To name a few:
Water Treatment – in water distillation, solar energy is often used through the process of evaporation and condensation of sea water to make it drinkable. The process involves exposing plastic bottles filled with water to the sun for about a day before it can be considered as drinking water.
Solar Thermal Technologies – one of the most common uses of solar energy is heat generation. Solar energy is ideal in heating water, warming up spaces and even in improving ventilation. Many companies are using solar thermal technology for steaming.
Agriculture – greenhouses are using solar energy for growing of crops. Even in the early ages, it is known that sunlight helps in growing plants for food. Solar energy is environment friendly and does not release anything to the air like carbon dioxide.
Supply of Electric Power – this is commonly used in homes and offices. These days cheap solar panels are already available so everyone can setup one. Solar panels will harness photons from sun's rays and converts it to electricity to power up appliances.
Daylight Systems – this is to minimize the use of artificial lighting during daytime. Many commercial buildings and residences are using this system, tubular skylights, tooth roofs and light shelves are just few of the products to install to complete your daylight system.
Solar Cookers – is also called solar furnaces. Many people particularly in hot countries were using solar furnaces in cooking their food. This method carefully uses arranged mirrors to concentrate the sun's heat into a small, confined space to increase its temperature to high level.
Evidently, solar energy is not just for residential solar power, there are so many uses of solar energy. In the long run, with this technology, we won't be needing artificial light and we can lessen the need of fossil fuels and eventually, free the environment from pollution.
