As they say: "The world is turning green." Environmentally aware consumers picked green as the representative color for the movement. The concerns about the planet and the impact of man on the planet has brought about a change in the pest control market, new green products and services are being formed that are green in nature and this is especially true in the pest control market. Pest control products claiming to be environmentally friendly are cropping up everywhere and are becoming increasingly popular by homeowners and businesses.Interest in green pest management methods does increase but at the same time is tempered by the extra cost of these methods. Green pest control often costs significantly more than regular pest control methods.

Particularly popular with schools, nursing homes and hospitals and environmentally aware homeowners are requesting solutions that use less toxic chemicals. The focus of the pest control industry is shifting towards Integrated Pest Management. This is so, because Integrated Pest Management or IMP as it is generally called is much safer for people, pets and other animals. Most pest control companies now offer IPM services. IMP methodologies emphasize low and non toxic materials for pest infestation treatments. Both fear and legitimate concerns are driving the market for IPM.

Because of the increase in demand, the Integrated Pest Management Institute of North America has created the Green Shield Certified program so that there are standard products and services. While the fact is that when people are dealing with a pest problem they want it dealt with and don't much care how. Whether a person is dealing with spiders or bees, ants or termites, the concern is that same for all. Get rid of the pests! Still, even with the strong push from people that are becoming more interested in solutions that don't sacrifice the well being of people pets and especially children. While common and dated pest control methods will be continue to be used by companies more concerned with ease of use and are reluctant to change, the consumer will drive the industry and those companies well attuned to the changing desires will lead the charge. Green pest control methods will continue to grow and evolve.
