Battery technology to run a house?

I'm thinking of installing a wind generator (like the ones that charge batteries for yachts) in my backyard but need some additional information about battery banks and iverters to complete the picture...

Read my wind generator project page. I have diagrams for overall wiring, charge controller, tower and foundations, etc.
