With the increasing costs of electricity that comes from fossil fuels such as oil and coal, people are taking an interest in alternative power sources. One of the best ways to reduce your reliance on fossil fuels is to manufacture your own energy with a wind power generator. Thanks to technological advancements, today’s wind power generators are more efficient and effective than ever, and this is why they’re becoming a more widely used solution to the energy problems of everyday people.

Current wind generators come in many different styles and sizes, in order to satisfy a wide variety of specifications. Although the basic principle behind wind turbines is the same today as it was when they were first introduced, the last several years have seen a host of improvements to wind turbine designs. Early wind turbine blades were so huge that they occupied too much space to be deemed a worthwhile investment for most homeowners. Even purpose-built residential-use wind power generators were really just ”miniature” adaptations of units used for commercial power generation purposes, and so they weren’t really very appropriate for use in residential environments. That these turbines required such strong winds meant that they almost always had to be set up on towers in order to be used effectively, and this added to the hassle and costs involved in installing them. They also had to be positioned at just the right angle in order to catch the wind. Certain turbines had tail rudders, which supposedly could be used to orient the turbines in such a way that they would operate at peak efficiency. The tail rudders also required strong winds, though, in order to be turned into position. The strong, consistent winds required by these early turbines are not particularly common to residential areas.

Modern wind power generators, though, are able to generate power even from light winds, such as those that occur in most residential settings. Also, since they’re lighter and more compact, they even orient much more quickly. Vertical axis turbines have also been introduced, and their ability to catch the wind at any direction is a useful feature for residential users. The power-to-cost ratio offered by modern turbines is perhaps their most appealing feature. Are you interested in knowing the price range of the different types of wind turbines? You can read wind turbines cost for futher information.

Wind turbines are now available which are perfect for use in residential settings and can be mounted easily on small towers, or even roofs. These turbines eliminate the once necessary added cost of setting up a tall tower. Although these kinds of turbines don’t have the same maximum power generation as industrial models, they make up for this by turning all the time, in any conditions. Homeowners will appreciate this consistency of production. The quiet operation of these small wind turbines is also appreciated by homeowners (and their neighbors). The low cost and high production of modern wind turbines mean that it’s now a better time than ever to move to this clean, consistent provider of power.
